Café Volunteer – St Michael’s Hospice
Are you friendly, welcoming, and enjoy being around people? Do you love the buzz of a café environment and like helping make someone’s day a little brighter? Join our wonderful team of volunteers and help support the heart of our Hospice!
Our café sits within the main Hospice building and provides a warm, comforting space for patients, families, visitors, staff and volunteers. As a Café Volunteer, you’ll be part of creating that uplifting atmosphere, whether you’re serving drinks, preparing light food, or simply offering a kind smile.
Every shift you give helps us continue providing compassionate care to local families when they need it most.
Availability
- Mondays and Fridays: 12:00pm to 2:30pm
- Commitment: 1–2 sessions per week
What you’ll be doing
- Greeting and chatting with customers, helping create a friendly and welcoming atmosphere.
- Preparing simple food and drinks to a high standard in line with Food Safety guidance.
Handling payments and using the till with confidence. - Keeping the café clean, tidy and inviting for everyone who walks through the door.
- Supporting the café team with day to day tasks that keep things running smoothly.
Skills and experience required
- Numeracy and confidence in handling money.
- Good communication skills and the ability to work well as part of a team.
- A reasonable degree of physical fitness, as this is an active role.
- Previous experience in catering or customer service is helpful but not essential.
Personal qualities
- A warm and approachable personality.
- Sensitivity to the nature of the Hospice environment.
- Willingness to learn and follow Food Safety and Hygiene requirements.
- Confidence working independently while being able to take direction when needed.
