Wellbeing Group Support Volunteer Opportunity

Help us create a welcoming and supportive environment for people living with life-limiting illness, their carers and those who are bereaved by supporting our Wellbeing Programme.

We are looking for Wellbeing Group Support Volunteers to help create a positive and welcoming experience for people attending our wellbeing groups. Whether it’s offering a friendly welcome, helping people settle in or simply helping sessions run smoothly, you’ll play an important part in creating a space where people feel comfortable and valued.

About the Role

Our Wellbeing Programme offers a variety of groups and activities that support people physically, emotionally and socially. As a Wellbeing Group Support Volunteer, you’ll work alongside staff and other volunteers to help create a friendly and inclusive atmosphere for everyone attending.

By offering a warm welcome, helping with refreshments and supporting the smooth running of sessions, you’ll play an important part in helping people get the most from their experience with us.

This is a rewarding opportunity for someone who enjoys meeting people and helping others feel included. We’re looking for volunteers who are compassionate, friendly and keen to make a difference.

Location

St Michael’s Hospice and Rye Hub on the Hill

Availability

  • Weekdays
  • Minimum commitment of half a day per week
  • Volunteers are asked to commit to supporting a full 6-week programme

Applicants must be aged 18 or over to apply for this role.

Please note: This role is subject to an Enhanced Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) check.

What You’ll Be Doing

  • Welcoming attendees and helping them feel comfortable and included
  • Preparing and serving refreshments
  • Assisting with room set-up and tidying up after sessions
  • Supporting staff with the practical arrangements of wellbeing groups
  • Providing a friendly and welcoming presence during sessions
  • Encouraging a positive and inclusive atmosphere
  • Assisting attendees with questionnaires and feedback forms if needed
  • Helping signpost people to information about hospice and community services
  • Reporting any concerns or relevant information to the Wellbeing Team
  • Working as part of a supportive team to help sessions run smoothly

Skills & Experience

  • Good communication and interpersonal skills
  • Experience of working with people in a customer service, support or caring role is helpful
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team
  • Good organisational skills and the ability to use initiative
  • Basic IT skills and confidence using email and Microsoft Office
  • Understanding of confidentiality and professional boundaries
  • Awareness of safeguarding and willingness to follow procedures
  • Knowledge of hospice care is beneficial but not essential
