Ward Support Volunteer Opportunity
Provide a warm, compassionate presence to patients and visitors on our Inpatient Unit. This role is vital in helping St Michael’s Hospice deliver exceptional care and comfort to those who need it most.
We’re looking for friendly, calm, and approachable individuals who are ready to offer companionship and practical support on the ward.
Location
- Inpatient Unit, St Michael’s Hospice
Availability
- Days:Weekdays and Weekends
• Shifts:
- Morning: 10:00am – 1:30pm
- Afternoon: 2:30pm – 6:00pm
• Commitment: 1–2 sessions per week
What You’ll Be Doing
- Offering companionship and emotional support to patients
• Welcoming and assisting visitors
• Supporting staff with light practical tasks
• Helping with refreshments and tidying up after meals
• Answering phone calls and passing on messages
• Debriefing with your Ward Buddy for guidance and support
Skills & Experience
- Comfortable speaking with people and using the phone
• A kind and patient listener
• Basic understanding of confidentiality and sensitivity
• Confident working independently and knowing when to ask for help
• Previous experience in care or support roles is a bonus
