14 year old Harrison Williams from Icklesham talks to us about how the Hospice supported his Grandad and the fundraising he has been doing to help.

“I first went to the Hospice with my Grandad and Nan when he did fitness classes there, which helped him a little bit. I thought it was a lovely place and I was happy if Grandad ever had to go there if he got ill, which sadly he did. He said to us before he passed that he really liked it at the Hospice, and it felt like home. Grandad was in the Hospice for nine hours and sadly passed away on 1st July 2024. The Hospice gave us all the support we needed that night and whatever they could do to help us, they did.

“I did the Moonlight and Memories Walk for the Hospice, and I wanted to get as much money through sponsorship as possible because they helped my Grandad. The walk was long, but it was good.  It was a lovely walk and nice that it was at nighttime. I did it with Catrina who works at the Rob Hood in Icklesham, the pub that my Grandad and Nan run. Grandad died on the date they took it over 29 years ago.

“It’s important for young people to support the Hospice because they really do help people, they are friendly, kind and caring. Whatever you need they are there for you.”
