I’m responsible for…
“The maintenance of the garden and grounds including four greenhouses, managing the garden volunteers (although they tend to
manage me!) and propagating plants for the gardens and for sale to raise funds.

I got the job…
“In 2001 and haven’t looked back since! (I used to work on an apple farm).

My typical day…
“There is no such thing in my job which is why I love it. One day I could be mowing, planting and hedge cutting, the next day propagating and transplanting, and the next organising jobs for my volunteers who come in throughout the week. There’s nothing better than working in the gardens on a beautiful summer day, with insects busy amongst the flowers and birds singing and using the nest boxes. It doesn’t get any better than that!

My most memorable work moment…
“Winning the Hastings in Bloom award for three years running.

The best part of my job…
“Is seeing the gardens change throughout the seasons. I love propagating and seeing the first seedlings come up and also enjoy designing borders and planting. I have a great relationship with the garden volunteers who work so hard throughout the year. It is really rewarding to hear positive comments about how the garden looks and thanks from people who work and volunteer here, and visitors.”
