No One Dies Alone (NODA) Volunteer Opportunity

We're looking for empathetic individuals who can offer a comforting presence and help ensure that no one dies alone. This role is deeply impactful and offers a unique opportunity to support end-of-life care in a truly human way.
Location
- Hospice, local care homes, and people's homes within the community
Availability
- Days: Flexible, based on volunteer availability
- Shifts: As agreed via rota
- Commitment: Weekly rota established in advance; volunteers input their own availability
What You'll Be Doing
- Sitting in vigil with individuals in their final days who have no kin or visitors
- Attending NODA Orientation and ongoing support circles
- Joining and communicating via two WhatsApp groups: 'NODA Information' and 'NODA Rota'
- Responding to vigil requests and attending agreed locations
- Informing the group when a patient has passed
- Interacting with next of kin, relatives, and friends when appropriate
Skills & Experience
- Good listening and interpersonal skills
- Understanding and respect for confidentiality and role boundaries
- Experience using digital tools like WhatsApp
- Ability to travel to/from community venues, sometimes at unsociable hours
- Ability to manage time and communicate effectively within teams

- Comfortable being present with someone who is dying
- Emotionally resilient, patient, and sensitive
- Mindful and respectful of others' beliefs and perspectives
- Reliable, punctual, and well-organised
