Compassionate Communities are places where people come together to support one another through difficult moments, particularly during health crises or personal loss, recognising that everyone has a part to play alongside formal health and social services. Because individuals and organisations can find conversations about death, dying, and end‑of‑life support challenging, we are working with our community to encourage more open dialogue about these experiences and to build strong, connected networks across the areas we serve.

St Michael’s Hospice together with St Wilfrid’s Hospice are offering a free, two-hour workshop for people in our community who wish to grow their understanding and confidence in engaging with conversations around dying, death and loss.

During this workshop we will:

  • Explore our attitudes to dying, death, loss and grief and why we sometimes avoid talking about it.
  • Learn about Compassionate Communities.
  • Dispel myths around talking about death and dying.
  • Learn skills and techniques to help us be more comfortable and confident in taking part in these conversations.
  • Understand how we can look after ourselves.
  • Look at resources that we can share.
