Join our Wellbeing Programme as a volunteer and help bring rhythm, movement, and joy to people living with advanced illness in Hastings and Rother.
About the Wellbeing Programme
St Michael’s Hospice offers a range of therapeutic activities, one-to-one sessions, and telephone support for individuals with advanced, progressive illnesses and their carers.
We’re currently looking for a compassionate and enthusiastic volunteer to support our Drum Fit group.
About the Group
Drum Together is a fun drum-based exercise and social group using seating drumming to music.
No musical experience needed—just a positive attitude and willingness to help!
Your Commitment
- When: Weekdays (half a day per week)
- How long: 6-week programme (weekly attendance expected)
- Where: St Michael’s Hospice, Hastings
Your Role Will Include:
- Setting up and tidying the activity space
- Welcoming and engaging with participants
- Offering light emotional support through conversation and listening
- Serving refreshments
- Assisting with feedback forms or questionnaires
- Helping participants connect with other community resources
- Sharing updates with the Wellbeing Team
Skills and Experience We’re Looking For:
- Friendly, empathetic, and sensitive to the hospice environment
- Comfortable supporting people facing illness, death, and dying
- Good communication and interpersonal skills
- Experience with vulnerable individuals (desirable)
- Awareness of safeguarding and boundaries
- Basic IT skills (e.g., Microsoft Office)
- Physically able to assist during activities
- Respectful of diversity and inclusion
- Open to feedback and ongoing training
