Ward Support Volunteer Opportunity
Make a difference by supporting patients, visitors and staff on our Inpatient Unit
We’re currently looking for friendly, compassionate volunteers to join our team as Ward Support Volunteers. This is a rewarding opportunity to provide comfort, companionship and practical support to patients during their stay on our Inpatient Unit.
Shifts Available
- Weekdays:
- Monday and Wednesday mornings: 10:00am – 1:30pm
- Weekends:
- Sunday morning: 2:30pm – 6.00pm
- Commitment: 1–2 sessions per week
Important Information
- Age requirement: Applicants must be aged 18 or over.
- DBS check: A Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) check will be required before you can start volunteering.
- Infection control: For patient safety, gel nails are not permitted in this role.
What You’ll Be Doing
- Offering a warm presence and gentle companionship to patients.
- Welcoming visitors and helping them feel at ease.
- Supporting staff with light practical tasks around the ward.
- Helping with refreshments and tidying up after meals.
- Answering phone calls and passing on messages.
- Checking in and debriefing with your Ward Buddy for guidance and support.
Skills & Experience
- Comfortable speaking with people and using the telephone.
- A kind and patient listener.
- A basic understanding of confidentiality and sensitivity when handling information.
Personal Qualities
- Friendly, calm and approachable.
- Able to read the room and respond to people’s needs with care.
- Willing to be flexible and try different tasks.
- Confident working independently while knowing when to ask for help.
