Our free Volunteer to Career programme supports individuals from the Hastings and Rother community to gain valuable experience that will enable them to start a successful career in health and social care.
Volunteer to Career is an eight week development programme and we’re looking for people who can commit to 3-6 voluntary hours per week. In return you’ll receive a unique opportunity to gain specialist hands-on experience within a healthcare setting, which will help you to kick start a career in the health and social care sector.

Who can take part?
Volunteer to Career is open to anyone aged 16 and over who’s interested in starting a career in health or social care. You may be a student who’s currently studying healthcare, someone who’s currently unemployed or needs experience to start a role in healthcare, or perhaps a parent looking to return to a new career. We welcome applications from anyone who’s serious about an exciting career in healthcare and who will use this opportunity to achieve this.
The next Volunteer to Career development course will start on 9th June. The course has five spaces and will run for eight weeks.
What will you experience?
You’ll get to spend time on our In-Patient Unit and also with our Wellbeing and Community teams. You can expect to work directly with our patients, supporting them with personal care but also other activities such as serving meal choices and keeping them company through chat or creative activities.
You’ll also learn about our Wellbeing Programme and Community services, offering a glimpse into how we support our patients with physiotherapy, occupational therapy, social activities and community care services.
We’ll ask you to complete a simple workbook with help and supervision from our teams. This will enable you to keep a track on your learnings for future career opportunities.

What is required from you?
You’ll have a passion for health and social care and will be required to commit to 3-6 volunteer hours per week over a course of eight weeks. This will be on a voluntary basis, but in return you’ll receive a unique opportunity to receive quality and dedicated advice, guidance, support from our expert healthcare professionals.
Balancing everyday life and regular commitments can be challenging, so we’ll work with you to agree a suitable schedule. We have received funding to deliver this opportunity so basic expenses, such as travel costs, may be covered.

6th – 9th May: Interviews.
6th June: Induction day for successful candidates.
9th June – 2nd August: Volunteer to Career development programme.
