DESCRIPTION:Following the success of the 2022 Open Gardens\, which raised over £30\,000 for the Hospice\, we are delighted to open the gates for our spectacular 2023 season\, running from May until August! \nThe gardens span the breadth of Hastings and Rother\, with a few further afield. This year we will be opening 55 gardens over 15 days throughout the season\, offering a rare peek into the beautiful gardens hidden on our doorsteps. \nPlease see below for our August dates. Our May\, June and July dates are available to view on our event diary. \nRefreshments will be served on each date. \nTuesday 1st August\, 10:30am-4pm\nHastings Old Town – multiple gardens.\nEntry: £7.50 (covers all gardens)\nExplore six gardens with a single entry price as follows:\n \nTichbon Cottage\, 10 Woods Passage\, TN34 3BX\nThis seaside garden with a small pretty front garden looks over the West Hill and a gently terraced back garden planted with a lovely variety of flowers and plants. \n1-6 Croft Terrace\, TN34 3HH\nHidden in the heart of the Old Town is a private garden which includes six mini gardens. A variety of plants and roses grow alongside the historic old grapevine. The fruit from this vine is harvested each year and made into jam. \nNewenden\, 88 Croft Road\, TN34 3HB\nThis garden faces the East Hill with fantastic views over All Saints Church\, Old Town\, the harbour arm and out to sea. Terraced on several levels with various seating areas connected by winding paths and wooden steps\, the garden features patio with balcony above\, home to a vigorous wisteria\, jasmine and clematis. \nEbenezer Cottage\, Tackleway\, TN34 3BX\nA small south facing garden to a Georgian cottage tucked away on the East Hill. The current owners have bought very few plants\, instead relying on propagation. A no-dig gardening style allows self-seeding and supports wildlife and insects. \n106 High Street\, TN34 3ES\nThis ‘secret’ walled garden of the former St Clement’s and All Saints’ Rectory is Soil Association-certified organic. A sloping garden\, with herbaceous borders\, fruit trees (including an ancient mulberry)\, terraces and a greenhouse. The garden also features exotic plants suited to dry conditions. \nTorfield Allotments\, Old London Road\, TN34 3HA\nCreated in the early to mid-1900’s the space contains up to 45 plots ranging from the long-established and first-time allotment owners. The plot owners grow flowers\, fruit and vegetables using a variety of methods\, whilst cultivating the land and rotating crops\, sharing their learning and pitfalls of allotment growing with fellow neighbours.\n \n\nThursday 17th August\, 10:30am-4pm\n\nSarah Raven’s Cutting Garden\, Perch Hill Farm\, Willingford Lane\, Brightling\, TN32 5HP\nEntry: £15\nThis garden is both beautiful and productive and is an inspiration for gardeners\, florists and cooks. An abundance of bold flowers and vegetable combinations provide spectacular displays of vivid colours. These are grown side by side and are used in courses run throughout the year. The shop in the grounds of the\ngarden will also be open.

It offers ornamental borders\, a hidden vegetable patch\, plus fruit and ornamental trees that provide an elevated backdrop. \nWoodside\, Broad Street\, TN36 4AS\nJust under two acres of garden divided into two distinct parts: a garden around the house with a large pond\, mixed planting and a large vegetable/cut flower garden with a paddock. \n\nTuesday 4th July\, 10:30am-4pm \nWardsbrook Farm\, Wardsbrook Road\, Ticehurst\, TN5 7DR\nEntry: £5 \nIn around four acres of land\, Wardsbrook is a Medieval farmstead located in a stunning valley with glorious views\, including topiary\, formal garden\, shade garden\, shrub border\, hot border\, wild meadows and a kitchen garden. \n  \nTuesday 11th July\, 10:30am-4pm\nHastings – multiple gardens.\nEntry: £6 (covers all gardens)\nExplore three gardens with a single entry price as follows: \n41 Linton Road\, TN34 1TW\nThis acre plot is loosely divided into silver birch woodland and natural pond\, a rose walk\, formal lawn\, sculpture pond and cottage flower beds\, vegetable garden\, and dry front garden. \n90 Priory Avenue\, TN34 1UL\nA plant enthusiasts hill top garden with spectacular views towards Rye\, bounded by mature trees\, also featuring a rockery and woodland area with several camellias\, ferns and other shade loving plants.\n\nSilverdale\, 1 Amherst Road\, TN34 1TT\nA mock Tudor house built in 1935 stands on the rise behind Hastings with views to The Ridge across Alexandra Park. Created in 2020\, this new garden is arranged around a central lawn and slopes gently northeast. Planted with a mixture of palms\, tree ferns\, non-native trees\, herbaceous perennials and tender annuals aiming to create year-round interest with a sub-tropical feel. \n\nTuesday 18th July\, 10:30am-4pm \nNorthiam – multiple gardens.\nEntry: £7.50 (covers all gardens) \nExplore six gardens with a single entry price as follows: \nWestwell House\, Main Street\, TN31 6NB\nThe owners woodland garden is a multicoloured and meandering journey to be visited at leisure. Enjoy a mix of established trees\, shrubs\, climbers\, perennials and annuals. With formal and informal areas: some shady\, some sun-dappled and others in full sun. \nNorthiam Conservations Society’s Orchard and Jubilee Nuttery\, St Francis Fields\, Main Street (via Orchard gate entrance only)\nThe site is a former cherry orchard and one of the original trees is still standing. Around it\, they have planted 60 new\, young fruit trees\, including rare and heritage varieties with a connection to Sussex. \nFrewen College\, Brickwall\, Rye Road\, TN31 6NL\nAn early 17th century manor house which is now home to a specialist dyslexia school. The formal gardens\, currently undergoing a major restoration\, are set within the oldest walled garden in Sussex. \nSouth Grange\, Quickbourne Lane\, TN31 6QY\nHardy Plant Society members designed this garden with wildlife in mind. It has a large variety of both usual and unusual plants. Grasses\, herbaceous perennials\, shrubs\, trees\, containers and vegetable plot combine for year-round interest. \n44 Cricketers Field\, TN31 6FA\nThe intimate rear garden is a three-dimensional tropical jungle with bananas\, palms\, yuca\, canna\, bougainvillea with towering and trailing passion flower\, jasmine and a multitude of other climbers. \n\nTuesday 25th July\, 10:30am-4pm\nLittle Common and Cooden – multiple gardens\nEntry: £6 (covers both gardens)\nExplore three gardens with a single entry price as follows: \n29 South Cliff\, TN39 3EH\nThis garden is on the cliff face and faces the sea. A garden with a sea theme\, rocks\, stones\, shells and plants that thrive in the exposed and often windswept garden. \nSunny Corner\, 2 Beaulieu Road\, TN39 3AD\nA mature garden comprising herbaceous shrubs\, perennials and annuals. It is a corner plot of about a quarter acre with the front laid mainly to lawn surrounded by beds of lavender\, roses and hydrangeas. Through the gate to the back garden there is a live steam garden railway in its own village setting. \nThe Small House\, Sandhurst Lane\, TN39 4RG\nA one-acre country garden on sandy soil with mainly herbaceous perennials and flowering shrubs. Features include a new succulent /alpine dry bed\, pond\, rose beds\, wild flower bed\, vegetable patch\, fruit trees\, fruit bushes\, bluebell copse of mature silver birch and wild flower meadow prone to winter flooding and rabbit nibbling.

DESCRIPTION:Our annual awareness week will return from Monday 20th – Sunday 26th February 2023. \nYellow Week not only raises awareness of hospice care and vital community services which support and enable people to live well with dying\, death and loss\, it also offers supporters the opportunity to do something fun and wear their best yellow themed outfits\, and show their support by hosting Yellow Week fundraisers. \nSo\, whether it’s a yellow themed dress-up day\, a yellow cake sale\, a yellow party or raffle\, there are plenty of ways for everyone in your community\, school or business can get involved. Why not turn your passion or hobby into a fundraiser to help raise vital funds for the Hospice next February? DESCRIPTION:Battle Attack\, kindly sponsored by Arthur C Towner Ltd and Littlewood Fencing\, returns on Saturday 4th February 2023 and is better than ever with new obstacles and a new course to tackle. \nThe muddy 5km obstacle challenge in aid of St Michael’s Hospice will take place in the unique grounds of Wylands Angling Centre\, Battle\, and runners from all over the county are welcome to take part. \nBattle Attack is suitable for groups of friends\, couples and colleagues. Alternatively\, why not join the new family wave. The new family wave offers a fantastic opportunity for you and your children (over the age of eight). The event is a great chance to enjoy a family day out you won’t forget! \nPre-booking is now closed but a limited number of tickets will be on sale at the event (first come\, first served) for just £25 per adult and £20 per child (8+). DESCRIPTION:St Michael’s Hospice returns to the Stade Hall and Open Space in Hastings Old Town this December\, to bring you their festive extravaganza\, Christmas on the Coast! Join Santa and his helpers on Saturday 17th December from 11am – 4pm\, for a day of seasonal fun for all the family. \nSanta’s elves will be very busy transforming the hall filling it with free magical Christmas activities for children and big kids alike. Activities include gingerbread decorating\, Christmas crafts\, writing letters to Santa (who always sends a reply!) and their popular secret present room\, where children can pick and wrap a gift for a special adult in their lives. DESCRIPTION:Whether your loved one received the care of St Michael’s Hospice or not\, young or old\, local or further afield\, all can be remembered with Lights of Love. \nWe are looking forward to welcoming you back to join together in the simple act of writing a personal message on a star which you can add to your own tree\, or one of our special Lights of Love trees. This year we will have eight locations across Hastings and Rother where the Lights of Love celebrations will be held. \nYou are warmly invited to attend one of our events this December\, at each you will be invited to hang your dedications onto the tree in an act of remembrance and to view your loved one’s details in a Book of Remembrance. \nMost of the trees used for Lights of Love have kindly been donated by the award winning Little Down Farm Christmas Trees. \nLights of Love Celebrations \nOur Lights of Love celebrations have been adapted to include new and unique elements\, whilst remaining familiar and welcoming. The tree lighting will directly follow each celebration. For those starting at 3pm or 3.15pm the tree lighting will be at 4pm.
