SUMMARY:Open Gardens 2023 - August dates
DESCRIPTION:Following the success of the 2022 Open Gardens\, which raised over £30\,000 for the Hospice\, we are delighted to open the gates for our spectacular 2023 season\, running from May until August! \nThe gardens span the breadth of Hastings and Rother\, with a few further afield. This year we will be opening 55 gardens over 15 days throughout the season\, offering a rare peek into the beautiful gardens hidden on our doorsteps. \nPlease see below for our August dates. Our May\, June and July dates are available to view on our event diary. \nRefreshments will be served on each date. \nTuesday 1st August\, 10:30am-4pm\nHastings Old Town – multiple gardens.\nEntry: £7.50 (covers all gardens)\nExplore six gardens with a single entry price as follows:\n \nTichbon Cottage\, 10 Woods Passage\, TN34 3BX\nThis seaside garden with a small pretty front garden looks over the West Hill and a gently terraced back garden planted with a lovely variety of flowers and plants. \n1-6 Croft Terrace\, TN34 3HH\nHidden in the heart of the Old Town is a private garden which includes six mini gardens. A variety of plants and roses grow alongside the historic old grapevine. The fruit from this vine is harvested each year and made into jam. \nNewenden\, 88 Croft Road\, TN34 3HB\nThis garden faces the East Hill with fantastic views over All Saints Church\, Old Town\, the harbour arm and out to sea. Terraced on several levels with various seating areas connected by winding paths and wooden steps\, the garden features patio with balcony above\, home to a vigorous wisteria\, jasmine and clematis. \nEbenezer Cottage\, Tackleway\, TN34 3BX\nA small south facing garden to a Georgian cottage tucked away on the East Hill. The current owners have bought very few plants\, instead relying on propagation. A no-dig gardening style allows self-seeding and supports wildlife and insects. \n106 High Street\, TN34 3ES\nThis ‘secret’ walled garden of the former St Clement’s and All Saints’ Rectory is Soil Association-certified organic. A sloping garden\, with herbaceous borders\, fruit trees (including an ancient mulberry)\, terraces and a greenhouse. The garden also features exotic plants suited to dry conditions. \nTorfield Allotments\, Old London Road\, TN34 3HA\nCreated in the early to mid-1900’s the space contains up to 45 plots ranging from the long-established and first-time allotment owners. The plot owners grow flowers\, fruit and vegetables using a variety of methods\, whilst cultivating the land and rotating crops\, sharing their learning and pitfalls of allotment growing with fellow neighbours.\n \n\nThursday 17th August\, 10:30am-4pm\n\nSarah Raven’s Cutting Garden\, Perch Hill Farm\, Willingford Lane\, Brightling\, TN32 5HP\nEntry: £15\nThis garden is both beautiful and productive and is an inspiration for gardeners\, florists and cooks. An abundance of bold flowers and vegetable combinations provide spectacular displays of vivid colours. These are grown side by side and are used in courses run throughout the year. The shop in the grounds of the\ngarden will also be open.
