Recruiting: Chairman of Board of Trustees

The Hospice is looking for our next Chairman, which is a non-Executive role, and has a key role across our organisation and services. The Chairman and the Board hold the CEO to account for the Charity’s purpose, values and strategic priorities. They will provide collaborative leadership of the Board of Trustees, ensuring each Trustee fulfils their duties and responsibilities for the effective governance of the charity.

The Chairman will also support, and, where appropriate, challenge the CEO on the performance of the Leadership Team. He or she will also ensure that the Board functions as a unit and works closely with the Leadership Team to ensure that the charity achieves agreed objectives. He or she will act as an ambassador and the public face of the charity in partnership with the CEO. The Chairman is expected to meet regularly with the Chief Executive and also represent the Charity at various events and meetings with key stakeholders.

“I've really enjoyed meeting such a wide variety of people; patients, supporters, organisations and seeing the warmth and love we inspire. I didn't know much about the clinical side of palliative care and seeing how we support families as well as the patient has been inspirational. The Hospice is embedded within the Hastings and Rother community and it has been a privilege to be its Chairman. I look forward to the future of the Hospice and its new Chairman.”
Irene Dibben, Outgoing Chair of Board of Trustees

The Chairman is not remunerated as it is a volunteer role. On average the role occupies one day a week in a cumulative sense although the Chairman has to be flexible about timing and available.

Applications are invited from across Hastings and Rother. We are also committed to increasing the diversity of our Trustees and welcome applications from under-represented groups who could help inform and develop all areas of our work.
