Retail Volunteer

Days: This will be agreed between you and the Shop Manager

Location: Chosen shop

What is the role?

Supporting the manager with the day to day running of the shop, ensuring it runs smoothly, safely and providing excellent service to all customers.

What will I be doing?

Under the instruction of the e-commerce manager you will be able to help with the –

  • Greeting, assisting and serving customers politely, providing an excellent experience
  • Ensuring the shop is a welcoming and desirable place for customers
  • Assisting with processing stock, including sorting, sizing, pricing, and displaying donated items
  • Visual Merchandising - creating stylish windows and displays
  • Ensuring the shop is clean, tidy and attractive to customers
  • Sensitively accepting donations from the public which may be either goods for sale or money and ensuring they are thanked – bearing in mind some may be bereaved
  • Being accountable for cash and card transactions and logging sales
  • Providing advice on purchases as required
  • Taking payments for items from customers and follow gift aid instructions where appropriate
  • Advising the Shop Manager of any planned absences as soon as possible and on the day in case of illness
  • Promoting the services offered by St Michael’s Hospice and the importance of raising funds through the shop
  • Attending relevant induction and training sessions
  • Reading communications sent out by the Hospice and Retail Manager
  • Understanding and demonstrating relevant policies and procedures during your volunteering at St Michael’s Hospice.
