Days:  Ideally one shift a week

Location: The Hospice, Upper Maze Hill, St Leonards on Sea, TN38 0LB

What is the role?

As a Front of House Volunteer, you will be part of a team responsible for greeting visitors, patients and healthcare professionals at St Michael’s Hospice, ensuring everyone receives a warm and friendly welcome. You will also be answering the telephone, taking messages, liaising with various departments and acting as ambassadors for the excellent services we provide.  

What will I be doing?
  • Welcoming all visitors to the Hospice and dealing with their enquiry in an efficient but friendly manner
  • Escorting visitors to the appropriate part of the building
  • Transferring phone calls to the appropriate member of staff or offer the voicemail option to the caller if the staff member is not available
  • Taking messages and ensuring these get to the right person and are followed up
  • Ensuring all visitors sign in and get a badge
  • Accepting donations to the Hospice and following the process for the handling of funds
  • Opening and closing the reception at the start and end of each day (dependent upon shift)
  • Performing basic administrative tasks
  • Assisting in the coffee shop when shut (eg providing drinks and snacks)
  • Contacting the wards before visitors wish to go through
  • Ensuring confidentiality of patients is preserved at all times
  • Ensuring the daily bedstate and any other confidential information is stored and disposed of appropriately
  • Reading and updating the handover book
  • Advising the Voluntary Services team of any absences as soon as possible
  • Understanding and demonstrating relevant policies and procedures during your volunteering at St Michael’s Hospice Attending relevant training and supervision/reflective practice as required.
