Day Services Volunteer

Days: Dependent upon availability

Location: The Hospice, Upper Maze Hill, St Leonards on Sea, TN38 0LB

What is the role?

Providing support to staff and patients  in St Michael’s Hospice Day Services with the day to day running of the centre.

What will I be doing?

Under the supervision from the Day Services team you will be

  • Supporting to participate in a wide variety of activities eg art, music, photography, computer, needlework, baking
  • Meeting and greeting patients when they arrive at Day Services, settling them in and making tea and coffee
  • Listening and talking with patients, their families and friends in a caring and sensitive manner and inform qualified staff of any issues
  • Having lunch with the patients and help with clearing away
  • Supporting people to recognise things they want to achieve
  • Helping to address the physical, emotional, spiritual and social needs of the patient
  • Be willing to share interests, hobbies and stories with patients
  • Accompanying patients on prearranged Day Services outings
  • Assisting at special events such as the annual Strawberry Fair
  • Provide basic support to patients when mobilising (only after receiving Moving and Handling Training)
  • Attending relevant training, support meetings and supervisions as required
  • Understanding and demonstrating relevant policies and procedures during your volunteering at St Michael’s Hospice.
