Charitable Trusts and Foundations

St Michael's Hospice enjoys the support of many charitable trusts and foundations. It now costs £5 million per year just to maintain current level of services and, as government contributions are less than 30% of our income, we must raise more than £3.7 million a year to maintain our services. Charitable donations have, therefore, always been vital to our growth from the creation of the Hospice in 1987 up to the present day, funding revenue costs as well as capital developments.

Building relationships with new and existing charitable trusts and foundations both locally and nationally is very important to us and we are enormously grateful to all those who support our work, helping us maintain our services for those living with life-limiting illnesses in Hastings and Rother. Some recent examples include:

  • A large number of charitable trusts supported our Phoenix Appeal which helped us to recover from a major fire, which contributed towards our £1.25 million target
  • The People's Millions grant, which St Michael's Hospice won due to votes that calculated to over 20,000 against another charity in Kent. The £50,000 awarded to St Michael's Hospice allowed us to transform our Day Services by offering a new Art Therapy Studio, Digital Photography Suite and Internet Cafe in the newly extended building
  • Hospice UK support hospices all over the country. They have assisted us not only with a number of grants over the years but also by putting us in contact with other trusts and foundations who have been able to support us in times of need, especially after the fire we suffered in 2015
  • Many items of essential equipment are obtained using grants from charitable trusts all over the UK including specialist beds, syringe drivers, recliner chairs, hoists and bed linen, and even creative materials such as paints and craft materials for patients to make use of during their time with us. We always have a long list of items we require, as well as maintenance, gardening and running costs, and would welcome enquiries from any Trust or Foundation that would like to support these costs.

Such help will enable us to establish the solid financial basis necessary so we can continue to respond to the challenge of caring for those with life-limiting illnesses throughout Hastings and Rother.
