Staff Training

Confident, Competent and Compliant

All Hospice staff and volunteers have a comprehensive induction and training programme that is refreshed regularly. Our clinical staff undertake a minimum of 5 days update training each year, including:

  • Mental Capacity and Deprivation of Liberty
  • Safeguarding Adults and Children
  • Basic Life Support skills
  • Medication numeracy
  • Grief and Loss
  • Spiritual needs

We have been able to increase the number of subjects we can cover without increasing the amount of time clinical staff are away from patient areas by using e-learning courses to cover certain topics. These are then followed up by practical workshops that give staff a chance to discuss any queries and to practice and demonstrate their new learning.

All staff and volunteers complete statutory and mandatory training applicable to their role at the Hospice, including:
 

  • Health and Safety
  • Equality and Diversity   
  • Moving and Handling  
  • Confidentiality  
  • Safeguarding Adults at Risk
  • Food Safety
  • Conflict Management

Staff have an annual personal development review that looks at the skills they need to continue to develop within their role.  The Hospice is committed to helping individuals with their professional development and has supported staff with qualifications and CPD, including professional development for Medical staff as part of their revalidation requirements; recognised qualifications with the Institute of Fundraising and Chartered
 Institute of Personnel and Development and specialist palliative care qualifications for clinical staff at degree and diploma levels for our nursing staff.
